The Mission of SOM
The Mission of the Silent Outreach Ministries – SOM is to enrich the spiritual, emotional, and social life of each camper in a safe and friendly environment.
The Purpose of SOM
The Silent Outreach Ministries invites Deaf and hearing men to know Christ as their personal Savior. We want to encourage men to grow day-by-day in their Christian faith – to give selflessly to remain steadfast, and to reflect Christ’s love. Our purpose is that each man becomes an influence as husband, father, and leader in his family, church, and communities as a result of their daily walk with Jesus.

Tan Lynn's Testimony

Tan Lynn, Creator & President of the Silent Outreach Ministries (SOM), founded in July 2010, lives in Lewisville, NC. He is the Director of Deaf Ministries at Triad Baptist Church, located in Kernersville, NC, where he is also the first Deaf man to serve as a Deacon in the Church's history. He and his wife, Billie Dawn, have been married since August 1998. They have been blessed with 2 sons (22 & 13).
How did Lord change Tan's life? Here’s what happened: In July 2005, Billie Dawn got saved at Harvest Deaf Camp. In November of the same year, God called Billie Dawn to move to Winston Salem, NC. In prayer, she said to God, “I am not telling Tan anything about moving. You will have to tell Tan Yourself. And You know how I feel about moving!”
About this time, Tan began watching Charles Stanley on TV. Stanley had written many books by this time and Tan decided to buy one of his books called “Living the Extraordinary Life”. As he read, Tan didn't understand the issue of happiness and joy, so he decided to read the book three more times. Afterward, he approached his wife and asked her about himself, whether he was generally unhappy or moody. She told him, “You know the answer yourself. It is the only time that you will have to figure it out yourself.” Tan felt like he was on an emotional rollercoaster, and it seemed like his heart was empty and devoid of joy. He realized that he wasn't truly saved. He decided he would bow down, screaming and crying out to the Lord. At that moment, he asked the Lord to come into his heart and to give him His FULL JOY so that he may experience peace in his life.
Immediately, Tan felt so peaceful and soon went back to sleep. He was joyful, fully knowing that Christ came into his life. That was on January 1, 2006. The next month, Tan read another Charles Stanley book. He felt Holy Spirit informing him to move his family to Winston Salem, NC. Tan wrote down notes exactly where Lord had called him to move. He hid the note so he could see his wife's reaction first. He asked her to join him in the dining room. He told her that God had revealed something to him, and that he wanted to share it with her. Suddenly, Billie Dawn said, “I already know that we have to move to Winston Salem, NC.” Imagine Tan's surprise at that remark! He knew that Lord had plans for them in Winston Salem. They moved on the last week of August 2006. They have been receiving the Lord’s blessings and they continue to thank our Lord for what He has done for their family.
